George received his B.Sc. degree in Chemistry from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. His undergraduate research used quantum-chemical methods to investigate the mechanisms and selectivities of 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions relevant to the synthesis of pharmaceutical precursors. After graduation, he worked as a Research and Teaching Assistant at KNUST, conducting computational chemistry research and teaching courses and laboratory sessions in physical, quantum, and computational chemistry.
He joined the Ph.D. program in Physical Chemistry at the University of Southern California in Fall 2021 under the supervision of Prof. Anna I. Krylov. His doctoral research focused on electronic-structure and molecular-dynamics methods to investigate the spectroscopy and dynamics of functional molecular systems. His work included designing organic photoredox catalysts, relativistic effects in transition-metal complexes, excited-state relaxation pathways, core-level spectroscopy, and the fragmentation dynamics of ionic-liquid propellants for nanosatellites.
His current research focuses on developing quantum mechanics/machine learning (QM/ML) schemes for studying interfacial photochemistry. His goal is to understand how complex interfacial environments influence excited-state processes, energy relaxation, and photochemical reactivity.
