Professional Experience

Guliz received her B.Sc. degree in Chemistry from Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Türkiye in 2017. She worked as a R&D chemist in Nanografi Nanotechnology before moving to Atlanta Georgia in 2019. She received her MSc in Organic Chemistry in 2021 from Georgia State University (GSU). She completed her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at Georgia State University in 2025 and subsequently joined the University of Oklahoma as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.During her PhD, she worked on the design, synthesis, characterization, and biological applications of near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent dyes, with a particular focus on cyanine and donor-π-acceptor fluorophores for bioimaging and molecular sensing. Her research explored the relationship between molecular structure and photophysical properties, and interactions with biological targets. She focused on the development of NIR and NIR-II fluorescent probes for biomedical imaging, including fluorophores designed for the detection of cartilage-related changes and early-stage arthritis.Her current work combines her background in synthetic organic chemistry with computational chemistry methods to understand reaction pathways, intermediates, and energetic profiles. Through this research, she aims to develop a deeper understanding of the fundamental factors governing organic transformations and to integrate computational approaches with experimental molecular design.
